Urban Shadows (2020 - present)

Urban Shadows is a work-in-progess 9 piece collection of large-scale and truly striking pieces. A beautifully intense series, relevant not just to the local central Victorian area but also to the broader narrative around what is happening in Australia and the world right now.

Each piece is a layered landscape which involves a process of three stages – the first stage is a detailed drawing of native birds and wildlife, done to completion. The second stage is the composition and execution of a delicate landscape which the wildlife inhabits; and the third stage is the layering of the dark urban shadows: sharp geometric shapes which loom over the delicate bush landscape. Essentially three pieces of work connected and presented as one. It follows a narrative arc detailing the delicate balance of life and death, literally and figuratively.

The longer you look at each piece individually and collectively, the more you can see as the art takes you on a journey deeper and deeper into the the heart of the Australian bush.
